FC Kuala Lumpur eased into the 2018 youth football season with a series of friendly matches against Young Guns on Saturday, 20 January. Taking place at The New Camp, Bandar Utama, the matches gave all FCKL teams, from Under-8 to Under-16, a chance to test their early form – and to show off their brand new training kits.

NEW LOOK TEAMS

In 2018 FC Kuala Lumpur has increased its number of teams from 5 to 8. That means all players can now play in their correct age group, with dedicated sides for Under 8s, 9s, 10s, 11s, 12s, 13s, 14s and 16s.

All teams were on display at The New Camp against Young Guns, and all were keen to get their season off to winning ways.

Not much was known about Young Guns going into the fixtures, but coaches were focused on getting their teams working together well and implementing the skills they’d work on in training. And with the start of the 2018 AirAsia KL Junior League just two weeks away, the matches would provide valuable feedback to all age groups.

OFF TO WINNING WAYS

The Under-8s got things off to a fantastic start for FC Kuala Lumpur with a thumping 11-1 victory that set the scene for a solid morning of results. Though the U9s conceded 3 goals against their older competition, the U10s picked up a win in their match against Young Guns.

Next up was the U11s and 12s, with the younger of the two teams battling to a 0-0 draw and the older side taking a 1-0 win. Onto the 11-a-side games, and the U13s showed their U14 peers how it’s done with a excellent 7-1 victory before the Under 14s won 2-0 and the Under-16s walked away with a 2-2 draw.
